Walsall’s Deputy Mayor attends prestigious Junior Judo Cup

On Saturday 15 June, Deputy Mayor of Walsall Councillor Louise Harrison attended the European Junior Judo Cup held in Walsall, the home of British Judo.

The 2-day event, staged just 1 month before the Olympic Games, saw the next generation of aspiring Olympians in action in one of the highest standards of judo competition in the junior age group. The competition provides an opportunity for communities to get involved and learn about the sport.

Councillor Harrison said: “It was an honour to be invited to attend the European Junior Judo Cup and it was lovely to meet the competitors and members of the British Judo Association.

“It’s very exciting for Walsall to host such a prestigious sporting event, and to be the home of British Judo. I am delighted that the council has been able to support this event and I hope that it has inspired other Walsall residents to have a go.”

British Judo CEO, Andrew Scoular added: “I would like to thank Walsall Council for their support in the second staging of the Birmingham Junior European Cup.

“The event will enable British judoka, and coaches alike, to experience high levels of international competition in a crucial development stage of their careers.”

This year’s Birmingham Junior European Cup, held at the University of Wolverhampton, Walsall Campus, was a resounding success, with over 270 judoka from 18 countries competing fiercely at the home of British Judo.
